Benefits of Medical Emancipation
The debate on whether children should be allowed to become medically emancipated from their parents has been debated amongst the public for years. The benefits for a child outweigh the risks when it comes to the decision of medical emancipation. Everyone has the right to refuse treatment, but what about their rights to decide their treatment? Parents have always been a guide for their children, but why don't children ever have a voice. Just because minors are underage doesn't mean their opinions don't matter. Also, adolescents are stuck in an ambiguous state of independence from childhood, but dependence of their parents when regarding lifetime responsibility. When regarding medical treatment or procedures, children should have their own say. They should be presented with the entire procedure and the possible risks and consequences. Individuals are the only ones who knows themselves the best, which is why they should be allowed to make decisions for themselves.
